Understanding Psoriatic Arthritis
Tsen-Fang Tsai
Dermatol Sinica 24:15-26,2006

Comparison of the Differences among Oral Verrucous Hyperplasia, Verrucous Carcinoma, and Squamous Cell Carcinoma by Silver-binding Nuclear Organizer Regions Stain and Immunohistochemical Staining of Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen, Type IV Collagen, and Laminin
Feng-Jie Lai , Maw-Chang Sheen , Hamm-Ming Sheu , Chee-Yin Chai
Dermatol Sinica 24:1-8,2006
There were clinical and histological similarities among verrucous hyperplasia (VH),
verrucous carcinoma (VC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the oral cavity,
especially, in those cases with borderline morphology. The aim of this study was to
evaluate the differences among oral VH, VC and SCC by silver-binding nuclear
organizer regions stain (AgNORs) and immunohistochemical staining for
proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), type IV collagen and laminin. Thirty-one

Dermatol Sinica 24:9-14,2006
Abstract
Acne is a common skin disease usually beginning in adolescence. The epidemiology of acne in Taiwan has been less intensively investigated. A total of 4,067 and 3,274 children (aged 6-12 years) in Kaohsiung county and Magong township were examined by board-certified dermatologists, respectively. The point prevalence of acne did not differ between the two populations (17.6 % vs. 17.3%). The female to male ratio was 2.1 in Kaohsiung and 1.5 in Magong. More inflammatory lesions (12.6%) ..................More |

Linear IgA disease complicated by erythema multiforme
Ching Yin Neoh, Malcolm W Greaves, M Priyanthi Kumarasinghe
Dermatol Sinica 24:27-31,2006
ABSTRACT
A 55-year-old Chinese man presented with acute onset of a vesicobullous rash on his face, axillae, genitalia and trunk. The skin biopsy showed a subepidermal bulla. The diagnosis was made by direct immunofluorescence of the perilesional skin which revealed characteristic linear deposition of IgA along the dermoepidermal junction. He was successfully treated with dapsone initially but subsequently developed erythema multiforme, possibly due to dapsone. Linear IgA dermatosis should be ..................More |

Dermatol Sinica 24:32-37,2006
Lupus vulgaris (LV) is a chronic and progressive form of cutaneous tuberculosis
occurring in individual with a moderate to high degree of immunity. It generally arises
from endogenous spread of tuberculosis of other organs. The lesions are usually
solitary and affect the head and neck. We report a 65-year-old woman with a history of
metastatic breast cancer who showed multiple lesions on different skin areas. There
was an ulcerated lesion on the right thigh for about two years. Tw ..................More |

Granulomatous periorificial dermatitis is a skin disease presenting predominantly
in prepubertal black-skinned children. It is characterized by tiny, monomorphous,
papular eruptions around the mouth, nose and eyes. Extra-facial lesions in children
had also been reported. These lesions are self-limited and resolved without scarring in

Dermatol Sinica 24:42-46,2006
Tyrosinemia type II (also known as Richner-Hanhart syndrome) is a rare disease
caused by a deficiency of hepatic tyrosine aminotransferase (TAT) with an autosomal
recessive mode of inheritance, resulting in elevated plasma and urinary tyrosine
concentrations. The main cutaneous manifestation is hyperkeratosis over the hands
and feet. Herein, we report a 27-month-old girl with frequent tearing and photophobia
since several months after birth and hyperkeratosis over fingers and bilateral ..................More |

Dermatol Sinica 24:52-57,2006
Paecilomyces species are ubiquitous saprophytic fungi that rarely cause human
infections. We report herein a case of an immunocompromised patient with cutaneous
hyalohyphomycosis caused by P. marquandii. The 68-year-old male suffered from
diabetes mellitus, chronic obstructive lung disease, and iatrogenic Cushing syndrome
due to a prolonged use of a systemic steroid for asthma. He fell down in the farm
while gardening and many pustules and fluctuating ulcerative nodules with pus

Dermatol Sinica 24:58-62,2006
Leishmaniasis is caused by intracellular protozoa of the genus Leishmania and transmitted by the
bite of female sandflies. Clinically, it is classified into cutaneous, diffuse cutaneous, mucocutaneous,
and visceral forms. We report an imported case of cutaneous leishmaniasis. A 50-year-old male
international constructor who had worked in Burkina Faso developed two red papules on right upper
arm one month after he left Burkina Faso. The cutaneous lesions gradually progressed into

Dermatol Sinica 24:63-66,2006
ABSTRACT
Intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL), a subtype of extranodal diffuse large
B-cell lymphoma, is a rare and usually fatal disease characterized by the presence of
lymphoma cells in the lumina of small vessels. Obstruction of blood flow by tumor
cells in different organs can cause a variety of clinical manifestations, including the
nervous and respiratory systems and skin. Biopsy of the involved organs for
pathologic study is needed for establishing the diagnosis. We repo ..................More |

Abstract
Heavily pigmented epithelioid melanocytic tumors are rare. They include epithelioid
blue nevus with or without Carney complex, epithelioid combined nevus, and the
recently described pigmented epithelioid melanocytoma. Despite histologic
similarities, these lesions have varying clinical courses, ranging from benign indolent
lesions to tumors that metastasize. We report a case of pigmented epithelioid
melanocytoma in a six-year-old girl who had no symptoms or signs of Carney

A 35-year-old female presented with multiple asymptomatic spiny protrusions on
her left sole, which gradually accumulated for 2 years. Clinical examination revealed
hundreds of asymmetrically distributed, minute, flesh-colored, keratotic papules on
the patient’s left sole (Fig. 1). On close-up inspection, the lesions, which measured 0.5
